A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Muskegon County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request, sent by us at the Muskegon Sun, sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

The information requested includes the full names of all candidates, the offices they are running for, their jurisdiction, and their party affiliation. Additionally, we asked for complete contact information for each candidate. This encompasses their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is crucial. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public. We await a response from the Muskegon County Election Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
