New Director of Public Safety has been narrowed to two candidate

The City Muskegon is pleased to announce that the search for the new Director of Public Safety has been narrowed to two candidates. Derrick Turner, Chief of Police for the Mobile, Alabama Airport Authority, and Tim Kozal, Director of the Ludington Department of Public Safety, will both be at Muskegon City Hall on July 28th for a full day of introductory meetings to major stakeholder groups. Following these meetings will be their finalist interviews, and finally a meet and greet at 5:30pm with the general public in the City Commission Chambers. 

These meetings will include time with relevant labor unions, other senior leadership at the city, and social organizations such as the Muskegon NAACP, Neighborhood Associations of Michigan Muskegon Chapter, Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and the Muskegon Social Justice Commission. 

These finalists are the product of a second candidate search which resulted in 26 applicants. 6 were invited to interview by a panel that consisted of existing public safety department heads, the interim city manager, two city commissioners, and the heads of the City’s other divisions which include Finance, Development Services, and Public Works.
