City of Muskegon issued the following announcement on Feb 12.

Small Business Saturday: The story of the Brianna T. Scott & Associates, PLCC is the story of a hometown girl done good, but it isn’t a typical story. The female- and minority-owned law firm in the City of Muskegon is headed by the first black woman to have a private law firm in Muskegon. And she was the first black female to be a Muskegon County assistant prosecuting attorney when she was admitted to the Michigan Bar upon graduation from Wayne State University Law School in 2000.

A multi-service law firm headed by a Mona Shores High School and Michigan State University graduate, Scott & Associates, 75 W. Apple, specializes in criminal defense, divorce and family law and civil litigation. Brianna has been in private practice since 2005 now with a five-employee firm including a second attorney Brittany F. Wilson, another black attorney who graduated from Mona Shores High School, Central Michigan University and University of Akron School of law in 2018. Brianna’s community service and activism are as impressive as her legal career. She was president of the Rotary Club of Muskegon when she led the club’s reaction to a series of racial incidents with a Love Lives Here campaign. She also served on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore, Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, Access Health, United Way of the Lakeshore and the Michigan Works Family Service Center among others.

When her alma mater MSU faced a series of crises creating national headlines, Brianna ran statewide for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, winning an eight-year term with the highest vote total in the 2018 election.  Brianna’s service with former MSU trustee Joel Ferguson has led to a partnership with her and Ferguson Development for the redevelopment of 880 First – the former Ameribank building in downtown Muskegon – into luxury apartments.
