Painting in the style of post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh, instructor Casey Bemis will teach students how to use acrylics to create a vivid landscape on a 10 x 20 canvas. Van Gogh who saw nature and art as inseparably linked used thick, expressive brushwork to capture the essence of a landscape. Students in this class will translate one of their favorite landscape photos into the Van Gogh style. The landscape theme for this class will coincide with photographer Ann Kraus’s exhibit – An Origin – on display at the ACWL-Nuveen February 3 – March 6.

Students who sign up for this class will need to submit a digital photo of the landscape they want to paint to nuveen@artswhitelake.org by February 5. Payment must also be made by this date. It is strongly recommended that the landscape image distinctly display a foreground – middle ground and background. Check out this link for tips and ideas: www.artswitelake.org/landscape-tips

Casey will loosely transfer the main features of the digital image with pencil on to the 10” x 20” canvas for each student. In class the students will use this canvas and acrylics to create an expressive Van Gogh inspired painting.
