Cost of college went up for all students at Muskegon Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 9.1 percent for 2018-19 at Muskegon Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $10,030 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $840 more than the $9,190 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 33.9 percent more than residents this year, or $13,430. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 9.1 percent from $12,310 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents.

Data shows 81 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 318 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.7 million and 48 students took out student loans totaling more than $196,318.

Including all undergraduates (4,078), 1,870 students used grants or scholarships totaling $8 million, and 456 students took out $2 million in federal student loans.
