City of Muskegon issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.
Here is our 4th update about the upcoming Election.
Our last update was on Monday. Since Monday, we have received 365 more absentee ballot applications for a total of 6,789 applications. We cannot stress how important it is to return the absentee ballot application (if you plan to vote by absentee) you received in the mail as soon as possible or go online and apply. https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/avapplication
We have a second drop box installed on the Walton Street side of City Hall for Election materials only. It will be installed for all Elections and then removed after.
We had an overwhelming number of people apply to work the Election. While we will definitely be using more help than we normally do, we will not be able to use everyone. We will share those applications with surrounding jurisdictions if they are in need of more help.
Because of the great interest in being part of the Election process and the large increase in work, we thought we would do something different and have some inspectors assist us in the office for a day. This week we had three new workers stuff 4,000 instructions into secrecy sleeves. Next week, we have ten new workers coming to place over 10,000 ballots into secrecy sleeves.
Not only does this help our office, it also provides transparency towards the Election process for our voters.
We received just one question this time:
Question - Can I return my voted absentee ballot to the precinct?
Answer - No. Absentee ballots must be returned to City Hall. All absentee ballots are counted by a large team of inspectors at City Hall. Polling locations can only process in-person voters.
We have much more to update so keep watching our page!
