The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued new recommendations on how state residents can have safe Thanksgiving gatherings amid COVID-19.
“We must remain vigilant, so we prevent long-term health consequences and unnecessary deaths, and protect our hospital capacity and the health of our frontline health workers,” MDHHS Chief Medical Executive Joneigh Khaldun said, according to the MDHHS website.
The MDHHS is recommending people hold outside gatherings if possible, as the risk for catching the virus is 20 times higher when inside. Inside gatherings should last a short duration and include no more than ten people and two households.
Residents are also being advised to maintain a distance of 6 feet from others, wear a mask except for when eating or drinking, wash their hands regularly, avoid sharing utensils and keep their voices down, as high volumes can increase the transmission of the coronavirus, according to MDHHS.
