Michigan officials announced that there will be more limitations on Michiganders involving lockdowns and regulations, but the Mackinac Center for Public Policy is calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Legislature to withdraw government rules so that hospitals can battle COVID-19 without limitations.

This includes orders that roll back legislation on hospitals and health care workers to allow them to better handle the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

This comes after the backlash the governor received over the last round of regulations and executive orders, The Wall Street Journal reported back in April.

"The focus in Michigan has been on limiting what citizens can do. But there is something else that government can do -- get out of the way," said Lindsay Killen, vice president for strategic outreach & communications at the Mackinac Center, according to the Center's website. "Earlier this year, Gov. Whitmer smartly rolled back 'Certificate of Need' regulations on medical providers and licensing rules on workers. The state should suspend laws that limit hospitals and workers to help Michigan fight the virus."
