Students tested the strength of an uncooked piece of spaghetti

Hillsideelementary

Holton Public Schools issued the following announcement on Oct 31.

Mr. Fishel's 5th hour math class used different types of spaghetti, cups, string, paper clips, beans, graph paper, and rulers to investigate slope.  Students tested the strength of an uncooked piece of spaghetti by hooking a cup to the piece of spaghetti and pouring beans into the cup until the spaghetti broke.  Students then added more spaghetti to see how many beans 2, 3, 4, and 5 pieces could hold.  Students graphed their points, and figured out slopes and lines of best fit.  As predicted, the thicker type of spaghetti had a higher slope (took more beans on average to break the spaghetti).
