City of Muskegon issued the following announcement on Nov 6.
Small Business Saturday: The sign says “Home Made” and when it comes to McDonald’s Candies you better believe it. The iconic candy store at 1064 S. Getty is still using the recipes of Charles McDonald, who began the business at Wood and Sophia in 1941. Owner Nancy Wagenmaker has owned McDonald’s Home Made Candies the past 20 years on South Getty just south of Apple Avenue. Known for its hand-dipped chocolates, the confections are made from scratch although various chocolate is sourced and blended as needed by the candy makers. By far the Muskegon favorite is McDonald’s Chocolate Covered Seafoam, Nancy said. McDonald’s products can be found around West Michigan, sold in places such as the Century Club Center in Downtown Muskegon and most recently at Ghezzi’s Market in Lakeside. Wagenmaker and her staff of five are gearing up for the busiest season of the year – the Christmas Holidays. Open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., McDonald’s Candies is closed on Sundays.
