Fruitport Community Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 29.
Re: Calendar Change - Professional Development for Staff
Dear parents, guardians, and families:
Each year, school districts are required to provide at least five (5) days of teacher professional development, with state law allowing for up to 38 hours of professional development to be counted toward the day and clock hour requirements for schools. Time spent during late start Wednesdays, as well as scheduled professional development days throughout the year count toward these requirements for Fruitport Community Schools.
The District will provide professional development to the District’s staff on Monday, December 13, 2021, which will count as professional development toward the District’s obligation. At a meeting of the Board of Education on November 15, 2021, the Board of Education approved this calendar change.
This means that Monday, December 13, 2021 will now be a full day of professional development for staff, resulting in there not being school for students on this day. Again, students will not report to school on Monday, December 13, 2021.
We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause, but are hopeful that you understand as our faculty works hard to continue to provide the best educational experience possible for all of our students. Professional development is critical to our success. Thank you for your continued support of Fruitport Community Schools.
Respectfully,
Jason J. Kennedy
Superintendent
