Oakridge Public Schools issued the following announcement on Dec 21.
Please visit our website to find a press release from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the FBI, who has identified an Oakridge Middle School student as a suspect that has been forwarded to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office on charges of making social media threats to purchase a firearm to cause harm at an unnamed school in California.
I’d like to publicly thank the witness who provided evidence of this threat directly to law enforcement without spreading it on social media. This may be a good time to remind the public that it is a crime to repost or share threats on social media even if you are not the original author of the threat. Law enforcement will seek and find the perpetrators. Within hours, this suspect was apprehended. The actions of this witness demonstrate the vigilance necessary to eliminate these threats from our community. When we look out for each other as a community and partner with law enforcement, the message is clear. We will not tolerate threats. We will keep kids safe.
The suspect never attended in-person learning at Oakridge this school year and the threat was not targeted at Oakridge.
