Fruitport Community Schools issued the following announcement on Mar 7.

Trojan Varsity Athletic Update

We are wrapping up our winter season with MHSAA postseason tournaments.  Here an update on how each program did in the tournament.

Co-op Hockey:  The co-op hockey team made an historic run this year in the MHSAA tournament.  They upset the 2021 state finalists Rockford in the regional semi-finals, by a score of 2-1, with Fruitport’s own Peter Pollock scoring the game winner with the assist from fellow Fruitport teammate Jaxon Stone.  Their incredible run came to an end in the regional championship to Traverse City St. Francis.

Competitive Cheer:  Our competitive cheer team competed in the MHSAA districts at Reeths Puffer.  The girls gave it their all and competed hard.  They ended up finishing 7th in the district out of 12 schools.  The next week they went on to finish top 5 in the GMAA competition.

Wrestling: Our wrestling team’s season came to an end when it lost to eventual regional runner-up Allendale in the district semi-final.  The boys still made some postseason noise when Nash Cooper, Roan Cooper, and Peyton DeHoog all advanced to individual regionals.  Nash and Roan both made it through regionals and finished top 12 in the state for their weight class at this past weekend's state championships, at Ford Field.

Bowling:  Our boys and girls bowling teams both competed at team regionals two weekends ago.  Our girls finished 9th and our boys finished 4th.  Our boys team missed qualifying for the state team bowling championship by only 12 pins.  Individually, Brynna Hanson and Raegan Dykstra qualified for individual state championships.  Brynna won the regional and Raegan finished 9th.  Both competed this weekend in Canton and Brynna finished 31st out of 60 bowlers and Raegan finished 37th.

Girls Basketball:  Our girls basketball team competed this past week at Oakridge in the district quarterfinals.  The girls competed hard and never quit in their comeback effort against the host Eagles.

Boys Basketball:  Our boys start their MHSAA postseason play today, in their district quarterfinal game against Montague.  This will be a rematch of last Thursday’s nail biting loss to the Wildcats.  We would love to see you all there cheering on the Trojans in their quest to win a district championship.  Tonight’s game is at 5:30.  Tickets need to be purchased on GoFan.  https://gofan.co/app/events/566489?schoolId=MI10173
