Updated COVID Protocols…Again

Oakridge Public Schools issued the following announcement on Feb 14.

Good evening!  I have some important information from Public Health Muskegon County to share with you.

Contact Tracing Discontinued

I have been notified that schools may discontinue contact tracing for close contact Covid exposures in a school setting.  They have cited research and evidence to date that shows transmission of Covid in school settings to be minimal in comparison to community and household transmission.  Therefore, Oakridge Public Schools will discontinue our phone calls to notify you of close contacts at school.

Sick Policy

We still ask you to report your child’s absence when your child is sick, including Covid.  If your child tests positive or is a close contact to a positive case in the home or community, isolation/quarantine protocols are still in effect as documented on our website at www.oakridgeschools.org/covid.  Simply put, do not bring your child to school if they are sick, including Covid.

Mitigation Strategies

Oakridge will continue our layered mitigation efforts and will continue to report positive case numbers on our website at www.oakridgeschools.org/covid.

Masks

  • The CDC order/rule requiring masks on school buses is still in effect.  We will continue to provide masks to students who need them.
  • Masks are still recommended in school but not required (unless seeking to return to school early from quarantine/isolation as listed under “Isolation/Quarantine Protocols” at www.oakridgeschools.org/covid).

I’m viewing this notification as progress.  We truly appreciate your continued support and partnership throughout the constantly changing circumstances of this pandemic!
