Nurses in Michigan feared the worst with the global pandemic of the new coronavirus and the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE). A specific group of nurses complained about the health gear shortage in Muskegon County. Their complaint was heard, and shortly afterwards, they received one of the first of many anticipated shipments from the Federal Reserve. In the shipment that arrived was much-needed face masks.
A press conference was held on March 19, and officials from the Region 6 Healthcare Coalition stated that there have been thousands of pieces of PPE that have been shipped throughout 13 different counties in the west part of Michigan.
Kathy Moore, Director of the Muskegon County Health Department, mentioned that the region is changing the way that it is testing for the coronavirus, according to MLive. There is now a strict criterion that residents need to meet prior to receiving the test. There were no positive COVID-19 tests in Muskegon as of March 19. However, as of March 30, Muskegon has a total of 17 positive cases and two deaths, both senior citizens, reports MLive.
