Twin Oak Investments, a real estate investment company based in Grand Haven, has responded to the COVID-19 crisis by donating 120 Chromebooks to the Muskegon Montessori Academy for Environmental Change.
The academy, which announced the donation on MLive, is a tuition-free charter school for kindergarten through 8th-grade students. There are 165 students currently attending the school.
The president of Twin Oak, Andrew Koss, is both a parent of a student at the school and the husband of a teacher. So when he saw another teacher organizing a fundraiser to buy the devices so that students could continue to learn, he saw an opportunity to make a difference.
“I contacted the teacher and told her to take the campaign down because it would be our pleasure to purchase the devices for the school,” Koss told MLive.
Academy Principal Ali DuBois said that the school will be immediately sending out 50 of the Chromebooks to students who need them to be able to do their schoolwork. She is hoping to hear from other families in need as well.
Comcast has also agreed to help families handle the crisis by donating two months of Internet for all the students at Muskegon Montessori.
