Rep. Greg VanWoerkom led the Michigan House to approve a measure that would improve a Muskegon County park and other state recreation facilities.
The House measure provides $125,000 to improve the kayak launch at the Village of Fruitport's Pomona Park. The project was recommended with several others by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.
Visitors to Pomona Park will have a new way to access Spring Lake and its connecting waterways. Improvements to the area include an accessible kayak launch, extended parking, benches and bike racks, among other improvements.

“Pomona Park is in the heart of Fruitport. This development will benefit residents and visitors alike, and I’m proud to support it,” VanWoerkom said, according to Michigan House Republicans. “It’s another way to showcase and expand upon the great recreation opportunities in our community.”
The House measure approves $28.7 million for 60 recreational development projects and 18 land acquisition projects.
Funds for the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund come from the development of minerals on state land, not from general tax dollars.
