Michigan now has more residents who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine than there are positive COVID-19 test results in the state.

As of Jan. 20, just over 598,000 Michiganders have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, Michigan Capitol Confidential reported.

The state has also reported that a total of almost 595,000 residents have contracted the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Worldmeters.info. The website also offers the number of Michigan resident deaths due to the coronavirus (14,951 as of Jan. 22) and the number of those who have recovered from the coronavirus (442,408 as of Jan. 22).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between the months of February and December, for every confirmed positive COVID-19 test in the country, there were likely 4.6 more people who were infected but never took a test because they had mild symptoms. This is important to note because it highlights the fact that the numbers being reported are probably far lower than the actual number of COVID-19 infections overall.
