City of Montague recently issued the following announcement on Nov 29.
CITY OF MONTAGUE RECEIVES $10,000 GRANT TO HELP FUND CONSTRUCTION OF PLAYGROUND AT BUTTERMILK CREEK PARK
The City of Montague has received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Muskegon County to support its playground at the Buttermilk Creek Park Improvement Project. The award comes from the White Lake Community Fund at the Community Foundation.
Jeff Auch, city manager of the City of Montague, said the funds would be used to help fund the construction of the playground within the Buttermilk Creek Park Improvement Project, located in the heart of the City of Montague.
“The City of Montague is delighted that the leaders of the White Lake Community Fund recognized the value of the playground project in opening a central park green space to benefit citizens and visitors to our unique downtown area. This is part of the improvement project taking place on Buttermilk Creek behind the Groove Record Shop and U.S. Post Office in downtown Montague; it already includes the sledding hill, ice-skating rink, with warming building, and some walking trail development, which we are also eager to expand,” Auch said.
About The City of Montague and Buttermilk Creek Park
Originally platted in 1867 as the Village of Montague, the Post Office opened in 1867 and by 1870 the village was thriving as a center for lumbering and manufacturing. The Village of Montague became a Fifth Class City in 1935 and has adjusted to change with calm and a forward-looking resolve to maintain its uniqueness as a friendly, small community. The Buttermilk Creek Park Improvement Project encompasses the former Chimont facility property that flooded in 1978. The City of Montague’s intention is to make it a park with walking trails along the Creek’s ravine, a pavilion, and a playground. It incorporates an existing sledding hill, warming building, and ice-skating rink. The Park entrance is in the downtown area of Montague behind the Groove Record Shop and U.S. Post Office.
