Fire Department Personnel on Blue Shift were dispatched to Pace Industries

G

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, approximately at 1:30 AM, fire department personnel on Blue Shift were dispatched to Pace Industries at 711 E. Porter for a Furnace Fire.

Ladder 443 and Command 497 arrived to find heavy fire inside the structure.

Plant managers on scene advised that they believed a forklift struck the gas line feeding a molten metal furnace.

Personnel from Ladder 443 and Rescue 472  stretched a 1 3/4” line to the inside of the structure and began a fire attack. The valve to the gas line was located and shut-off, eliminate the fuel source feeding the fire. Crews worked to put out hot spots in and around the furnace.

The fire was extinguished within an hour. No structural damage occurred to the building, as the building’s fire suppression system prevented the fire from breaching the roof.

A huge thanks goes out Fruitport, Muskegon Heights, Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Fire Departments for their response to the incident. Canteen 450 and Pro Med Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

Units Assigned: Ladder 443, Rescue 472, E-424, Command 497, Fruitport 561, Muskegon Heights Ladder 142, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg fire departments with Manpower.
